Butt Plugs: How to Use Safely and Comfortably

A butt plug is a sex toy that goes in the anus. They are often shaped like a cone, starting narrow and getting wider before narrowing again. Butt plugs also have a broad base to prevent the toy from going too far. Unlike many other sex toys, such as dildos, a butt plug is meant to stay in place during sexual play.

A butt plug can be used to stimulate the anus to be ready for sex. This is because the plug’s tip is near to the female g-spot and the prostate, the male g-spot.

How to Try a Butt Plug Safely

Staying In and Staying Out

When attempting anal toys, always use something with a flared base. Your anus can suck things in, and a flared base controls that. A pull cord or large ring is also suitable for safety.

Lubrication

The rectum and anus are delicate. Lubrication allows to prevent tears and soreness, and it usually makes the anal play feel more enjoyable. Since the anus does not self-lubricate like the vagina, always use lots of lubrication. If you use a silicone toy try to use a water-based lube. Silicone lube can make silicone toys impair faster.

Body-Safe Materials

Sex toys constructed from porous materials may not be body-safe. The sex toy industry is not regulated, even though these items go inside your body. Any toy made from acrylic or plastic may leach toxic chemicals into your anus. Besides, these materials are porous. They can’t be thoroughly sanitized, and bacteria may develop on them.

The safest materials for butt plugs are silicone, stainless steel, and Pyrex glass. These materials are non-porous—they can be disinfected and sanitized between uses.

How to Play With a Butt Plug

Start slow. Anal play is usually more enjoyable when you are relaxed. If you are worried, an anal tear may happen. Pay attention to how you are feeling. Slow down or stop if something hurts a lot or doesn’t feel right.

Begin with something smaller than the butt plug. A finger is usually a fantastic tool for warming up. If you don’t want to spread germs from the anus to other parts of the body, or you want to keep your hands clean, wear a nitrile glove or disposable latex. Apply lube on your finger and rub the edge of the anus gently before inserting your finger. Once you enter a finger or two in there comfortably, try inserting the butt plug.

Wash Your Hands

Even if your anus is clean, it can still have bacteria that can generate infections in the vagina. After you touch the anus, wash your hands before touching other genitals. Wash with soap and warm water to prevent UTIs and yeast infections.

Cleaning and Care

Most silicone toys can go in the dishwasher as long as they don’t have a motor. This helps to kill bacteria. Boiling silicone, glass, and stainless steel toys will also disinfect them. Ensure to do this before sharing a toy with your partner. Even if you use the toy yourself, disinfect it occasionally to stay clean and healthy.
